We are Energiekantoor.nl (“EnergyOffice”), an energy intermediary, which originated from a residents’ initiative in 2006 to get a lower energy bill.

We supply electricity and gas at competitive rates, which you always receive, year in year out, whether you are a new customer or have been a participant for many years.

To ensure the duration of your energy contract is properly aligned with the length of your stay and your intentions, the following characteristics of the Dutch energy market are important:

  • An energy contract is linked to the person, not the home;
  • There are two types of contracts with a one-month notice period: variable and dynamic. The price for a short notice period is the greater fluctuation in rates, often monthly for variable contracts and hourly (!) for dynamic contracts. Dynamic contracts are often more affordable, but geopolitical unrest is immediately reflected in the rates.
  • Fixed contracts with a term of 1 or 3 years cannot be canceled early without incurring a cancellation fee. After all, the supplier has purchased energy specifically for you. The advantage is price stability, as the rate is fixed for the entire term. No matter what happens.
  • All contracts include a monthly advance payment, based on the expected or agreed-upon rates multiplied by the average consumption at the address over the past three years (which can be adjusted downwards if necessary).
  • Billing takes place once every 12 months based on actual consumption and the actual/agreed rates. You will then receive a refund or have to pay extra, and the monthly advance payment for the following 12 months is determined.
  • The monthly advance payment is the same every month. This means you pay less than your actual energy costs in the winter, and more in the summer. This is because gas, for heating and hot water, usually accounts for the largest portion of energy costs. If your contract runs less then 12 month and includes the winter months, you are likely to have to pay extra. If your contract primarily includes the summer months, you will usually receive a refund.
  • Every address must have a registered energy supplier. The grid operator (Stedin, Liander and others) enforces this and will send unpleasant letters about disconnecting your energy connections if you don’t arrange this. Both disconnecting and reconnecting are expensive, so to be avoided. If you’ve already received letters, call us immediately to discuss. We can help, but don’t hesitate.

To receive a non binding offer, please complete our form; the Google translate page of ‘Meedoen’ (Participate). If you don’t have a Dutch bankaccount, contact us.
